First post.
Frippertronics.
The aim here is to post some hard-to-find Frippertronics shows from the late-70's/early 80's, in the hopes that other Fripp-lovers might share their shows, and then everyone benefits. True file-sharing.
Robert Fripp is not the showiest guitarist in the world, but he is certainly one of the most inventive, and I think that comes out more in the Frippertronics/ Soundscapes series more than anywhere else. I was only 16 and completely unaware of this music when he was making it, but then, I probably wouldn't have 'gotten it' back then, as this is far from 'Top 40' material. I do have two other shows of Frippertronics, one from the Kitchen in NYC in 1978, and one from the Kitchen in 1979, but I'm not sure if they are the shows I was told they were (# of tracks don't match, etc.) I'll try to post them later, if I can verify the source.
4 of these links are for shows from 1979 (Cafe Campus, Ste. Foix, Canada 8/15/79... Le Pretzel Enchaine, Montreal, PQ Canada 8/19/79... Walker Arts Center, Minneapolis MN USA 6/22/79... & Robert's Midnight Special TV appearance 10/5/79)
I've also included a link for Mr. Fripp's vinyl-only, long-out-of-print 1980 album, "God Save The Queen", and links for King Crimson's appearance on the early-80's ABC-TV show 'Fridays', during which they performed "Elephant Talk" & "Thela Hun Ginjeet". (HEADS UP: Watch for Robert's amazingly perverse-yet-sincere grin for the cameras at the 1:30 mark into "Elephant Talk", which he holds for a full 15 seconds, completely unaware that the camera has left him after 3!)
Enjoy, and PLEASE share whatever you can. If you could provide a link in the comments section, or even a link to your own blog or homepage, I'm sure Frippertronics-lovers would be most grateful. I know there's many, MANY more of these shows available... if anyone has anything different, please offer. THANKS! Bob

thank you for this and for the effort.
You're welcome, Karnovsky...
Enjoy!
What a great blog!!! Many thanks for the video of KC on Fridays!!!
Keep up the good work.
Thanks
You're very welcome, Steve.
'Fridays' wasn't much of a show, but they did get some AMAZING music guests, didn't they? (King Crimson, Warren Zevon, Rockpile, Graham Parker, Devo, The Cars, The Clash, Ian Hunter & Mick Ronson... not bad for a show that only made it 2&1/2 years!)
Enjoy!
beautiful. thanks!
Well, Peter, I wouldn't say I'm beautiful...
but, some mornings...
Everybody should check back, as I'll have another batch of Fripp-related items posted soon. Bob
Hi MCRO - a wonderful idea and I hope I can help out.
Do you have a list of shows you have/want?
Regards
A
Hi, Hallav! Always good to hear from a Fripp-lover! Actually, no- I don't have a list of 'wants'... really, anything from 1979-81 (that I don't already have) I'm keen to hear (from 1982 on, I believe, Mr. Fripp started using a 'guitar synthesizer' and, while I like the sound, I don't LOVE it as much as the "old-school", Revox Frippertronics. The shows I have are the 4 I posted, plus 1978 & 1979 shows purported to be from the Kitchen in NYC (I haven't been able to prove that yet, but I will post those when I can, as they're both very good), and also a 3/4/83 McKenna Theatre in San Francisco show, which is part-Frippertronics and part-discussion, and which I obtained before I knew about the 'guitar-synthesizer'.
And that's it... I'm hungry for anything you'd have to offer, and I do appreciate that offer. Let me know what we can work out!
Thanks- Bob
Hi, Hallav- Bob here. I just found out... my Fripp show which purported to be The Kitchen 1979, is actually Tower Records, San Diego CA 7/24/79. AND, the show I uploaded as Le Pretzel Enchaine, Montreal, Canada 8/19/79, is actually KCOI-FM, Montreal, Canada 8/18/79. Just wanted to give you a heads-up on that. Bob
"is actually KCOI-FM, Montreal, Canada 8/18/79"
You meant CKOI-FM.
I think the tour dates were listed on the back cover of the vinyl release of Let the Power Fall??
